It is impossible to separate a language from the culture that produced it. They are one and the same thing. The beauty of Shakespeare's sonnets can only be felt in the music of his English words. Much of their meaning is lost in translation. Conversely, it is difficult to explain why certain words are used and why they are used in a certain the way without knowing some history of Britain. Shakespeare himself invented for his plays many of the words we use today. You may find some of them here, and much more.
